shoes short story

It was a warm Friday evening in the summer when I had one of the best nights of my life. A friend of mine and I decided to go out to a local night club and have some fun. I was wearing a black v-neck shirt, beige dress pants and white dress shoes. The story begins on a subway train where in my usual fashion, I was doing chin ups to prepare myself to take over the club we were headed to.
As I was taking a break from a set of chin ups, I spot two cute women sitting together. I decide to approach and go in there raw, breaking the ice with, “hey guys, red delicious or granny smith?” (a completely random question about apples)Their reply was empty of enthusiasm and implied only one thing, not interested. But I chose to push it and kept talking.
The interaction consisted of the most boring small talk ever and lead to the women stepping off the train without even saying goodbye. This was just a beginning to the night I was about to have.
I arrive to the night club and meet my buddy there. The club is quite large but since we arrived early, there were not a lot of people there just yet. I spot a group of cuties and make my way towards them. I come up and say “hey guys, I thought I would come over and meet you guys, I am Phoenix” There was at least a three second silence after I said my opening line. The girls looked at me, looked at each other and proceeded to physically push me away from them.
At that point, I was thinking to myself, “Fu** tough night”. Little did I know it was going to get much tougher.
After that point on I proceeded to spend some time talking to my buddy, the bartender and some other people at the place. Despite being rejected several times that night already, I was not going to stop or as Ted Turner puts it, “Winners never Quit and Quitters never Win”.
As I am hanging around by the bar, I see a group of three girls standing around so I decide to go meet them. I start walking towards the group and as I am about to say something to them, one of the girls gives me the STOP gesture with her hand and with the meanest look on her face says, “You’re not doing this!!”
I was stunned by this response yet I was quick enough on my feet to gather up a response. I look this girl right in they eye and say very firmly, “Wait! I had to come over and meet you guys” The girl keeps on and is strongly implying that I should fu** off. There were two other girls with her, one of which was interested and eager to talk to me. I recognize this and shift my attention to the girl that is most interested while the other two girls keep on trying to force me out.
While I am talking to the interested girl, out of no where, a fat, short, snobby chick appears and starts yelling, “Stop hitting on my sister, stop hitting on my sister!!” So at this point, I have one girl telling me to fu** off on my left, one girl yelling ‘stop hitting on my sister’ on my right, the crappiest song playing in the background while I am trying to seduce the girl right in front of me. But wait, it gets worse.
I am forced to address both obnoxious girls but as I’m doing so, the girl I am most interested it gets blocked out as these two girls get in my face. Then, once again out of no where, a big fat ugly dude comes in and starts yelling, “You are a loser, get the fu** out of here” At this point I made the best possible decision and simply left the group as the situation was not going to improve in any way, shape or form.
To summarize the events above, I was told to fu** off by a girl whom I have not ever spoken to before, told to get the fu** out of here by a short fat chick who I have never met in my life, called a loser by an ugly fat dude whom I have never met either, and lost a girl who was interested in me.
At that point, I felt like someone had ripped my heart out and chopped it into little pieces. I thought my confidence would never be the same again.
I was wrong, the next day I woke up alive and well. Despite what happened I was still alive, still breathing, still going strong and most importantly still willing to keep trying. Essentially, this was the best night of my life as I faced my biggest fear with meeting women – being brutally rejected – and realized that I could handle whatever comes my way.
The morale of this story is simple, rejection will only make you stronger if you choose to keep going. No matter what, always keep trying and never stop. Rejection is just a building block to success which must be overcome.
If you got any memorable rejection stories please share.
